As one of AZSRA’s first outreach efforts beyond the metro Phoenix community, President Mal Owen traveled to Tucson and conducted squash clinics for the University of Arizona on Saturday, April 18, and the Tucson JCC on Sunday, April 19.

The participants were excited to learn more about squash, fine tune their skills and strategy, and get introduced to their newly-formed district association.  Importantly, great contacts were made, and AZSRA is hopeful to have gained some passionate volunteers willing to help expand programming in their facilities.

All participants were encouraged to sign up for their free Club Locker account by going to https://arizonasquash.clublocker.com/login, which would add them to the US Squash and AZSRA database – improving our ability to communicate to them upcoming events.  Club Locker provides a host of benefits.  Read more about Club Locker on the US Squash website.

AZSRA has created a WhatsApp group for players in our district. Please consider joining if Arizona is your home base. We will only use this WhatsApp group to push out notifications from AZSRA, so it won’t blow up your “inbox” with individual player communications. Please consider joining that as well by going to https://chat.whatsapp.com/FJ4iHbxkDr1ISAn7MPWuDL.

We are grateful to:

  • Tucson JCC staff members Lindy Lunkenheimer, General Manager, for her help in organizing and promoting the event, and Sean Whitley, Sports & Recreation Program Specialist, for his assistance in setting up the courts and onsite support, and
  • The Black Knight squash racquets company supported these clinics by assisting AZSRA acquire a number of their top-rated racquets to be used as loaner racquets for these and future AZSRA clinics.
